PROP 22 DECISION
We stand firmly behind the recent California Supreme Court ruling that upheld Proposition 22, affirming the will of nearly 10 million voters. This landmark decision secures vital benefits and protections for gig workers while preserving their independence. Prop 22 has proven effective since its inception, providing guaranteed earnings, mileage compensation, and 100% of tips for gig workers. This ruling ensures that gig workers can continue to enjoy the flexibility they value without sacrificing critical benefits. sf.citi is proud to support our members in the gig industry and this important step forward for worker independence and protection.
IN OPPOSITION OF AB 2286 (AGUIAR-CURRY)
sf.citi strongly opposes AB 2286, which would mandate human operators in all heavy-duty autonomous vehicles, despite years of successful safety records and advancements in autonomous technology. This requirement hampers innovation and economic growth, placing unnecessary burdens on state agencies and disrupting California’s established regulatory process. Autonomous trucks enhance road safety, improve supply chain efficiency, and create new job opportunities without displacing existing roles. Embracing this technology is essential for reducing traffic fatalities and addressing the truck driver shortage while unlocking significant economic benefits. We urge policymakers to reject AB 2286 to ensure California remains a leader in autonomous vehicle innovation and progress.
