PROGRESS AT HOME AMID NATIONAL CHALLENGES
While the national election results weren’t what we hoped for, and the shift in political power raises concerns for many of our members, we remain steadfast in our mission to advocate for San Francisco’s tech industry. Locally, the majority of the ballot propositions we endorsed passed, reflecting strong support for policies that benefit our city. Measure M stands out as a significant victory, passing overwhelmingly to help our member companies offset the challenges of remote work and pandemic-related recovery costs. This measure also supports small businesses, restaurants, arts, entertainment, and more, creating a ripple effect that benefits the entire city. It also mitigates the harmful impacts of Prop L, which posed risks to our ride-sharing members and their users.
At sf.citi, our advocacy doesn’t end with the election. We’ll continue to champion policies and initiatives that empower our members and drive success for the tech sector and the city at large.
AI LEADERSHIP IN SAN FRANCISCO
This month, San Francisco’s AI industry made headlines with significant developments in city leadership. Sam Altman, CEO of sf.citi member company OpenAI, was selected to join Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie’s transition team, bringing his vision and expertise to help guide the city’s future. We’re also excited to welcome Anthropic as the newest member of the sf.citi community. Together, we aim to advance AI’s potential while fostering ethical innovation and growth. These partnerships reflect our commitment to making San Francisco a global leader in artificial intelligence, from research and development to implementation.
MICROSOFT IGNITE: A HISTORIC RETURN TO SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco is set to host Microsoft Ignite in November 2025, marking the event’s first return to the city in nearly three decades. Ignite, one of Microsoft’s flagship conferences, brings together technology professionals, developers, and IT leaders to explore the latest advancements in cloud computing, artificial intelligence, business intelligence, digital transformation, and more. Beyond its educational impact, Ignite will play a vital role in San Francisco’s “convention recovery” efforts, with SF Travel estimating it will generate nearly $42 million for the city. This event underscores San Francisco’s importance as a global hub for innovation, and we’re thrilled to welcome such a pivotal gathering back to our city.
