We are all Dreamers
“In this group [of Dreamers] is the next founder of a great tech company — the next Mark Zuckerberg, the next Sergey Brin.” So said sf.citi board chair Ron Conway Tuesday night at our latest One City Forum event, An Uncertain Future: Dreamers, Tech, and a Changing Immigration Landscape. In partnership with FWD.us, the ACLU of Northern California, Harvard Alumni for Education, and our host Microsoft, sf.citi organized a lively and timely conversation about the Trump administration’s plans to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, as well as other immigration reform issues. Delivered in front of a packed house, our panel dug deep into DACA’s future and the need for immigrants to keep our economy strong. Former Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the creator of DACA, put it best: “do we want to be a talent magnet for the world or do we want to lose them?”
We received overwhelmingly positive feedback on the night’s distinguished group of speakers and panelists, including national coverage. We would like to express a special thank you to our participants:
- Scott Wiener, State Senator District 11
- Janet Napolitano, President, University of California System
- Jack Chen, Microsoft
- Ron Conway, SV Angel
- Vasudha Talla, ACLU of Northern California
- Zachary Nightingale, ACLU of Northern California
- Mark Ranneberger, FWD.us
- Alejandra Zapatero, Erickson Immigration Group
We want to give a special thank you to our gracious hosts at Microsoft for sharing their space and providing refreshments throughout the night. Look forward to seeing you at our next event in the new year! Check out photos of the event here.
Earlier this month at Postmates, sf.citi held the final installment of our Lunch and Learn series in 2017. Speaking to a full room of members, State Senator Scott Wiener capped off the lunch series with an informative and engaging conversation on issues at the top of his agenda, including the state’s housing crisis, homelessness, public transportation, and his work on safeguarding LGBT rights. Thank you to all of the speakers and member companies who hosted and attended lunches in making the Lunch and Learn’s inaugural year a success.
Uplift our Communities this Holiday Season
As we near December, kickoff the holiday season by giving back. Help spread the holiday cheer and give back to your community during the holidays by volunteering. Many great volunteer opportunities exist during this time of year, so we wanted to highlight a handful sf.citi’s amazing nonprofit partners. These volunteer opportunities have something for everyone; they include both individual and group programs and range from donation drives to wrapping and delivering holiday gifts.
