Good afternoon sf.citi members,
Hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I am writing to you today with an exciting update on Supervisor Safai’s Cafeteria Legislation, which was heard at today’s full Board of Supervisor’s meeting. The latest version of the legislation is attached below.
While discussing the Cafeteria Legislation during today’s meeting, Supervisor Safai voiced his support for ongoing contract negotiations between San Francisco tech companies and Unite Here Local 2, a union of over 12,000 workers in the hospitality industries of San Francisco and San Mateo. As Supervisor Safai was made aware that tech companies have been engaging in card-check negotiations with Local 2, the Supervisor demonstrated his support of these efforts by sending the Cafeteria Legislation back to the Land Use and Transportation Committee. By doing so, Supervisor Safai has allowed this item to sit while both parties further negotiate details of an updated union contract.
During the meeting, Supervisor Safai also publicly thanked a shortlist of sf.citi member companies for engaging with his office on this legislation, which included, Facebook, Uber, Dropbox, Twitter, Airbnb, and Lyft.
We expect this item to be heard at an upcoming Land Use and Transportation Committee based on the outcomes of negotiations between Unite Here Local 2 and the tech industry. This date has yet to be slated. We will keep you updated should any notable items arise.
Additionally, Supervisor Safai will be featured as a speaker at next week’s Lunch and Learn. We look forward to discussing this legislation and other priorities in person.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions. Thank you for your continued membership and support.
Jen
