Next month, leaders from around the world will congregate in San Francisco for the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit. The three-day conference includes a number of affiliate events to encourage participants to “take ambition to the next level,” and a vegan breakout session has been added to this prestigious register. Presented by WeWork and sf.citi, the dinner will feature some of the top plant-based innovators and revolve around the stimulating discussion of the future of food.
San Francisco is known for its start-up, tech-driven culture, and many clean meat and vegan meat alternative companies are based in the surrounding areas. The event, “The Future of Food: Tech’s Menu for Sustainability,” reflects this tech-meets-food environment. Featured guests include Josh Tetrick, CEO of JUST; HRH Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed, founder of KBW Investments and dedicated vegan advocate; Lindsay Baker, VP of Sustainability and Wellbeing at WeWork; and Senator Nancy Skinner (SD-9).
The topic of conversation will dive deep into how the private and public sectors can do their part to enhance more sustainable food options and make them viable for the public. Jennifer Stojkovic, Executive Director of sf.citi, told LIVEKINDLY, “Tech companies are leading the way with revolutionary new corporate policies, such as WeWork’s meat announcement, while political leaders are spearheading legislation to create better access to plant-based foods. WeWork, which recently issued a company-wide policy to go meat-free, will host the event at its Embaracdero location. sf.citi is responsible for bringing these innovators together. The organization describes itself as “the glue connecting the technology sector to the community.” It works with tech companies and public officials in the San Francisco area to uphold the progressive city as a leader in tech and social responsibility.
Amid conversations, guests will be treated to a variety of plant-based foods that are currently revolutionizing the market. The completely vegan menu, curated by Impossible Foods, will include plant-based Lasagna Muffins with housemade vegan cheese, Brisket Arancini, Impossible Truffle Burgers, and more. In addition, samples will also be available from some of the leading plant-based food startups, such as JUST, NUMU Vegan Cheese, Ocean Hugger Foos, Fora Foods, and Alpha Foods, courtesy of New Crop Capital, a sustainability-minded investment firm.
The Future of Food: Tech’s Menu for Sustainability will be held on September 13. Limited tickets are open to the public.
