BEGINNING 2020 WITH THE BUSINESS OF DOING GOOD
A new decade is upon us, and with it comes resolutions to do better. On January 29, we’ll explore how one San Francisco company is doing just that at The Business of Doing Good: How Corporate Leaders are Advancing Animal Welfare.
In October 2019, sf.citi member Airbnb launched Airbnb Animal Experiences accompanied by one of the tourism industry’s most comprehensive animal welfare protection policies ever written. It bans exploitative practices such as elephant riding and captive dolphin experiences from Airbnb’s platform. Crafted in partnership with World Animal Protection, this extensive initiative establishes Airbnb as a leader in promoting a better, more responsible world. At our very first event of 2020, we will take a look at how other companies can follow suit and build better business practices while doing good.
Hosted at Airbnb headquarters, sf.citi’s The Business of Doing Good event will feature an in-depth conversation about Airbnb’s animal welfare policy and ways corporate leaders can champion social responsibility by partnering with nonprofit organizations and legislative leaders. We will hear from Mikel Freemon, Head of Animals at Airbnb, Alesia Soltanpanah, Executive Director of World Animal Protection, California Assemblymember Ash Kalra, and sf.citi’s very own Jennifer Stojkovic. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to talk to local Airbnb Animals Experiences hosts and learn how to take part in these unique opportunities. NEW YEAR, NEW POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERS
On theme with the promise of a New Year, sf.citi is excited to welcome two new members to our Policy Advisory Committee.
We formed the sf.citi Policy Advisory Committee in 2019 to guide sf.citi’s overall policy direction. The Committee includes seven representatives from different sf.citi member companies who meet regularly with the sf.citi team to develop policies that proactively engage tech companies in improving San Francisco and offer innovative solutions to the City’s regulatory challenges. One year later, we are excited to announce two new members: Nadia Anderson, Government Relations Manager at Cruise, and Tom Tarantino, Head of City and State Public Policy at Twitter.
Question for our new Policy Advisory Committee members: What are you looking forward to accomplishing with sf.citi in 2020?
“sf.citi’s mission is focused on serving all San Franciscians, and the organization has a proven track record of working collaboratively to help solve some of the toughest challenges we’re currently facing as a city and society. I’m absolutely honored to serve as a new member of the Policy Advisory Committee and look forward to working alongside others in hopes of developing policy and regulatory solutions rooted in equity and opportunity.”
— Nadia Anderson, Cruise
“Good public policy doesn’t happen in a vacuum. sf.citi effectively builds bridges between the public and private sector that fuel a growing movement for responsible progress in San Francisco and beyond. I look forward to the opportunity to help sf.citi and our community continue to grow and thrive.”
—Tom Tarantino, Twitter

OUR FAVORITE sf.citi MOMENTS IN 2019
Before diving into 2020, let’s take a look back at 2019. Journey through our favorite memories from the past year in sf.citi’s 2019 Annual Report.
A new year is the perfect time to set goals. It’s also an opportunity for reflection. For sf.citi, 2019 was a year of firsts. We brought together tech advocacy organizations throughout the United States and Canada at our first Tech City Summit. We released SF Politics 101, a comprehensive guide to San Francisco government that sf.citi members can access at any time. We also launched the sf.citi Store to allow non-members access to SF Politics 101 along with a suite of other helpful resources. Teaming up with TechToronto, we organized the TechBet to channel tech’s enthusiasm for the NBA Finals into a good cause. And the list goes on!
Read about more sf.citi novelties, as well as our mainstay programming—think Lunch and Learn, tech volunteer days, and all kinds of tech-centric events—in our Annual Report.

Governor Gavin Newsom named sf.citi One City Forum member Abby Snay deputy secretary for Future of Work at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. Snay has done so much for the Bay Area community as the longtime CEO of Jewish Vocational Service (JVS). Join us in wishing her all the best in her new role. We look forward to continuing to support the work of JVS!
