Dear sf.citi members,
I hope you are having a wonderful new year. This afternoon, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors held their first meeting of 2019. Supervisors Catherine Stefani (D2), Gordon Mar (D4), Matt Haney (D6), Rafael Mandelman (D8), and Shamann Walton (D10) were all sworn in at the beginning of the meeting. Shortly thereafter, nominations opened to serve as President of the Board.
Nominees can be self-named or named by other serving members of the Board. Sandra Lee Fewer (D1) nominated Norman Yee (D7) and newly-sworn Haney nominated Hillary Ronen (D9).
After the formal nomination process, public comment followed. Ronen received overwhelming public support during public comment, and several participants were seen wearing stickers and t-shirts in support of her nomination. Public comment lasted for over two and a half hours and was a clear demonstration of how Ronen organized community support in favor of her nomination.
Following public comment, Board Members discussed the nominations and voted. Supervisor Yee won the nomination with a vote of 7-4 with the following vote breakdown:
Fewer – Yee
Stefani – Yee
Peskin – Yee
Mar – Ronen
Brown – Yee
Haney – Ronen
Yee – Yee
Mandelman – Yee
Ronen – Ronen
Walton – Ronen
Safai – Yee
We look forward to working with President Yee and the rest of the Board of Supervisors, beginning with next week’s kickoff to our 2019 Lunch and Learn series featuring Supervisor Mandelman. We hope to see you there and, as always, thank you for your continued membership and support. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Jen
