D6 Appointment, Voter Guide, & More

  • May 12, 2022
  • Member Memo

I’m writing to you today to provide you with a brief update on a few items, starting with San Francisco’s newly appointed District 6 Supervisor. After much speculation and anticipation, Mayor Breed has officially appointed Matt Dorsey to fill the vacant D6 position on the Board. Matt has been part of San Francisco’s political scene for many decades as a San Francisco Democratic Party board member, press secretary to City Attorney Dennis Herrera, and most recently as Head of Strategic Communications for the SFPD.

Dorsey’s policy priorities include combating addiction, affordable housing, and homelessness. He has been publicly open about his own struggle with addiction—making this a highly personal issue area for him. Notable supporters of his appointment include CA Senator Scott Wiener, who worked with him in the District Attorney’s Office and thinks that experience will lend itself well to his new role. As a moderate on the board, Mayor Breed will have another ally to support her agenda.

Many, including Supervisor Haney, were hoping Mayor Breed would choose his former Chief of Staff, Honey Mahogany, to fill the position. We expect that Honey Mahogany will be running in November against Dorsey, who will be required to run for election if he wants to remain D6 Supervisor.
