Cafeteria Legislation

  • March 13, 2019
  • Member Memo

Dear sf.citi members,

I hope you are enjoying this long-awaited sunshine. I am emailing to send a brief update on the Cafeteria CU that recently moved from the Planning Commission and is to be heard at an upcoming Land Use and Transportation Committee meeting.

On yesterday’s call, we discussed a conversation with Land Use regarding their lack of intention of having this item heard at the next Land Use meeting. Therefore, this item will likely be heard in 12 days. Assuming this is passed from Land Use to the full Board — given that two out of three members of the committee have sponsored the legislation — the earliest possible date for this to be heard is on April 2nd. In the meantime, we are asking every affected member company to identify three speakers to attend the Land Use hearing tentatively set for the 26th if that date gets solidified. We will be monitoring the agendas, which are made public each Friday, to confirm.

Additionally, as the Planning Commission vote resulted in a 3-3 split, we have been made aware that Supervisor Safai would need eight votes in order to pass to the full Board instead of the usual six. We are confirming this legality with Land Use, though we have received confirmation from the Mayor’s office. Though this works in our favor, we would still like to come out strong against this as we did for the previous two hearings. We understand that each of you are busy, but would greatly appreciate if those of you affected could identify three team employees and pull any statistics on money spent, jobs create, number of local organizations you partner with, etc.

Rest assured, sf.citi and other member companies have pulled lobbyists to fight the legislation on your behalf and will continue to keep the group updated. Thank you again for your continued membership and support. Feel free to reach if you have any further questions or concerns.

Jen
