WELCOMING OUR NEW BOARD MEMBERS: COMCAST, WAYMO, AND ZOOX
We are excited to welcome our newest sf.citi board members: Comcast, Waymo, and Zoox. Represented by Alex Youn, Director of Government Affairs for Comcast; Noelle Duong, Policy and Government Affairs Manager for Waymo; and Phil Pierce, Senior Public Policy and Regulatory Affairs Manager for Zoox, these companies are actively contributing to San Francisco’s vibrant tech ecosystem. Comcast, a prominent leader in the telecommunications and media sector, is enhancing digital infrastructure in the city, bringing faster, more reliable internet services to residents and businesses. Waymo, a trailblazer in autonomous driving, is expanding its self-driving car operations, working closely with city officials to ensure the safe and efficient deployment of this transformative technology. Zoox, an autonomous vehicle company that will bring mobility-as-a-service to dense urban environments, has created a purpose-built robotaxi designed for AI to drive and riders to enjoy. We are thrilled to have these innovative companies join our board, and we look forward to their leadership in driving the future of tech in our city.
sf.citi’s OPPOSITION TO AB 3061
sf.citi strongly opposes AB 3061, a bill that would impose additional reporting requirements on autonomous vehicle (AV) manufacturers in California. While the bill aims to enhance safety and transparency, its approach is flawed and could negatively impact the advancement of AV technology in the state. The current regulatory framework already includes robust reporting requirements that ensure safety and accountability. Adding redundant layers of reporting, as proposed in AB 3061, would create unnecessary administrative burdens, increase operational costs, and potentially slow down the deployment of AVs—technology that promises to enhance road safety and reduce traffic fatalities. At sf.citi, we support measures that balance safety with innovation, and we believe that the existing systems should be optimized rather than overcomplicated. We remain committed to working with policymakers to develop regulations that foster innovation while maintaining public safety.
SAN FRANCISCO TECH INDUSTRY RALLIES BEHIND KAMALA HARRIS
San Francisco’s tech industry has become a key force in backing Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign, showcasing its influence and commitment to her candidacy. Ripple CEO Chris Larsen hosted the “San Francisco Speaks: A Night of Technology and Truth” event during the Democratic National Convention, which highlighted the city’s resurgence and innovation. This event was part of a broader effort by Silicon Valley leaders, including Ron Conway and the “VCs for Kamala” coalition, who have mobilized significant financial support for Harris. Tech employees from major companies like Google, Apple, and Meta have also contributed substantially, underscoring the deep connection between Harris and the Bay Area’s tech community. We at sf.citi proudly stand with our tech community in supporting Kamala Harris as we work together to shape the future of innovation and leadership in America.
