SAN FRANCISCO FORWARD: 2020 DISTRICT DEBATE SERIES

In the months leading up to the November 3, 2020 election, sf.citi hosted virtual debates with the Supervisor candidates running in San Francisco’s most competitive district races. With the incumbents of San Francisco Supervisor Districts 1 and 7 vacating their seats, we saw more than ten candidates rush to fill their spots. sf.citi organized debates with the top five Supervisor candidates in both District 1 and District 7.

San Francisco Forward: District 7 Supervisor Debate

True to its name, District 7 had seven candidates competing to represent the Southwestern corner of San Francisco, which includes West Portal, Twin Peaks, Park Merced, and San Francisco State University. The winner would replace termed-out District 7 Supervisor and Board President Norman Yee. It was a packed field made up of City Hall veterans, journalists, attorneys, and everything in between.

The District 1 race was one of San Francisco’s most competitive district races of the November 2020 election. With incumbent District 1 Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer vacating her seat, a number of San Franciscans were eager to take her place. We spoke with the five leading Supervisor candidates vying for the support of residents in District 1, home to the Richmond, most of Golden Gate Park, and the University of San Francisco.
