BAY AREA SPORTS PUBLIC POLICY BRIEFING RECAP
sf.citi was proud to host our most recent public policy briefing at the Verizon Innovation Lab, focused on the Bay Area’s growing role as a global destination for major sporting events. With NBA All-Star Weekend, Super Bowl LX, six FIFA World Cup matches, and the 2028 Summer Olympics on the horizon, panelists Cassandra Costello (SF Travel), Heather Pease (Bay FC), and Ruth Shikada (Bay Area Host Committee) joined moderator and San Francisco Supervisor Stephen Sherrill for a conversation on how the Bay Area can prepare for and benefit from upcoming global sporting events while strengthening local communities, building meaningful partnerships, and maintaining our region’s status as a hub for both sports and innovation. Thank you to all who attended, Verizon for hosting, and to all our speakers for helping us explore how the Bay Area can turn global attention into lasting community benefits.
If you’re an sf.citi member interested in attending, RSVP by Friday, April 11th to hayden@sfciti.org to confirm your attendance. We hope to see you there!

sf.citi OPPOSES AB 353
sf.citi opposes Assembly Bill 353 (Boerner), which proposes undue broadband rate regulation. While we share the goal of closing the digital divide and expanding broadband access for low-income Californians, we share concerns that AB 353’s price mandates would undermine private investment, innovation, and consumer choice. We urge lawmakers to pursue more sustainable affordability solutions, such as direct subsidies or tax credits, that protect California’s competitive digital economy while expanding access. We will continue to engage with policymakers on strategies that bridge the digital divide without compromising the infrastructure that powers innovation.

On May 22, the Hotel Council of San Francisco will host the 9th Annual Women in Leadership Forum, bringing together leaders from the hospitality and technology sectors to explore innovation, leadership advancement, and the future of both industries. With over 550 attendees last year and notable past speakers like Kristi Yamaguchi, this year’s forum will focus on how the integration of AI and emerging technologies is shaping the hospitality landscape and creating new opportunities for women in leadership.
