2021 POLICY AGENDA > Public Safety
Public Safety
sf.citi believes that San Francisco should be a safe and vibrant environment for every person that lives, works, and travels to the City. We support efforts that seek to make San Francisco safer and more equitable through 21st-century public safety solutions.
- sf.citi supports efforts proposed by City Hall and the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) to rethink policing through their plans to advance transparency and accountability, reassess how best to deploy the police force with those experiencing homelessness, and reallocate part of the department’s budget to the Black community, among other reforms. This is only the first step, and sf.citi encourages the City and SFPD to continue an open dialogue on how they can continue improving to make all communities feel safe in San Francisco.
- sf.citi supports investment in community-based alternatives that connect and reconnect people to resources, opportunities, and workforce exposures that promote economic mobility. Special attention should be given to programs that reduce recidivism and help returning citizens access supportive services and programs.
- sf.citi supports efforts to end mass incarceration and reform the criminal justice system, while also balancing those efforts with a system that keeps criminals off the streets and keeps San Francisco safe.
