sf.citi Represents Tech Internationally in Germany
Earlier this month, sf.citi embarked on our first international delegation with Mayor Lee and Supervisor Farrell to Kiel, Germany. As San Francisco’s tech representative, sf.citi worked to build international collaboration with the emerging German tech market, as well as strengthened ties for many sf.citi member companies currently working in the E.U. and Germany. sf.citi Executive Director Jennifer Stojkovic spoke on a panel of city leaders from across the globe on the topic of building smart cities during the city’s Digital Kiel Week conference. We’re thrilled to have participated in the delegation and look forward to continuing to represent the industry both locally and globally. Watch the panel discussion here:
sf.citi Urges Governor Brown to Advance Caltrain Improvements
Transportation infrastructure across the entire Bay Area is in dire need of upgrades. Those who commute along the Highway 101 corridor on the Peninsula know too well that the freeway is a parking lot at rush hour, and Caltrain is packed with riders, regularly running at 125% capacity in both directions. In response to this crisis, the California State Assembly and the State Senate passed SB 797, a bill to support planned improvements to Caltrain. The bill, which is on it’s way to Governor Brown’s desk for signature, would open the door for Bay Area residents to create a permanent source of funding for Caltrain, which it currently lacks. To bolster swift action, sf.citi and our friends at the Silicon Valley Leadership Group co-authored an opinion piece in The Mercury News last week, urging Governor Brown to sign SB 797 into law. sf.citi fully stands behind this critical transit improvement.

In sf.citi’s last newsletter, we shared the letter we sent to Governor Jerry Brown, urging him to sign the housing package that was to cross his desk. With much jubilation, we are excited to notify you that Governor Brown signed each housing bill – SB 167, AB 678, SB 35, SB 2, SB 3, and AB 1515 – into law. The passage of this housing package has placed California onto the right path towards alleviating this state’s housing crisis, and sf.citi is proud to have been part of the force behind these needed efforts.
Bringing Apprenticeships to San Francisco
San Francisco’s Office of Economic Workforce and Development (OEWD) recently launched TechSF, a bold new initiative to help San Franciscans pursue tech sector careers. This workforce initiative provides access and training to nontraditional tech workers from San Francisco through apprenticeships. Last week, sf.citi convened a highly informative meeting between OEWD and a packed room of leaders from Lyft, Google, Facebook, Getaround, AdRoll, and AT&T. These sf.citi member companies will lead the way in promoting a local and inclusive workforce. Learn more or join TechSF by visiting their website.
