We’ve had a busy week here at sf.citi, and are excited to report on our recent One City Forum event with photographer Helena Price and LinkedIn, as well as share with you an important member announcement and proposed ballot measure.
sf.citi Welcomes New Board Member
We are delighted to have Microsoft’s Kate O’Sullivan join sf.citi’s Board of Directors. Kate is the general manager of External Affairs within Microsoft’s Corporate, External and Legal Affairs Department. She leads global public policy campaigns and engagement with industry partners and other key stakeholders across legal and regulatory policy initiatives. She also serves on the board of 826 National, is a member of the US Advisory Board of IESE Business School based in Europe, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Council.
Welcome Kate and thank you to Microsoft for being a Platinum member of sf.citi in 2016!
sf.citi Fights Against Proposed Tech Tax
As you may have heard, earlier this week San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar introduced a “tech tax” bill that could lead to a new ballot measure in November. The bill, which failed to garner enough support to be placed on the ballot directly last week, would impose a 1.5% surtax on tech companies’ payroll within San Francisco, in addition to the gross receipts-based tax that is already paid by tech companies. This bill seeks to target and vilify tech companies, creating an unfair double-tax on the industry in San Francisco.
sf.citi is fighting hard to defeat this tax, rallying together support from the tech and startup community. If you want to learn how you can get involved, contact us at info@sfciti.org.
Learn more about the bill, and hear from our Managing Director, in TIME Magazine.
ur Techies Project Launch Party: The Recap
Last week, sf.citi’s One City Forum launched the Techies Project, a portrait collection from photographer Helena Price sharing stories of people underrepresented in the greater tech narrative. This first public showcase of the collection included remarks from the photographer and over 400 of you showed up for a night of art, music, mingling and fun. The launch was timed with Pride month in San Francisco.
“The Techies Project provided a great way to bring the tech community together during Pride month to celebrate LGTBQ diversity,” said Theresa Pasinosky, Director of Brand Marketing at Xoom, an event attendee. “It also felt very healing to see, acknowledge and honor LGBTQ people after the terrible loss at Pulse in Orlando. It made this event that much more important.”
Thank you to LinkedIn for hosting the event in their beautiful new downtown office space. We hope you all had a safe and enjoyable Pride celebration this past weekend.
