OneDegree
Stella Li, a rising Senior at Lowell High School is interning for One Degree this summer. She primarily helps the non-profit with their social media marketing. As an aggregator of community resources, One Degree relies on Stella to collect information about what other city-wide nonprofits are doing to provide housing benefits, jobs, and after school programs. Stella profiles these nonprofits on One Degree’s website. She submits blog entries and summarizes local resources for clients in Cantonese, making One Degree trilingual! Stella will be helping out in the Fall, she is dedicated to learning more about the operational aspect of a nonprofit, and starting to pitch the services that One Degree provides to prospective clients.
MotherCoders
Tina Lee, Founder of MotherCoders, a nonprofit that teaches moms in the Bay Area how to code, is so grateful for Tessa Thompson’s help this summer. Tessa, a Junior from Drew High School, is working alongside Tina as a teacher’s assistant during coding classes. She helps look after the children when the moms are in the classroom and makes sure everyone is fed. Tina is also helping Tessa with coding in HTML and CSS for front-end web development on the MotherCoders’s site. Tessa always had a goal to learn about the inner workings of a nonprofit and how to do outreach and social media. She is onboard to continue as an intern with MotherCoders in the Fall to develop her teaching methods and design thinking process.
Jawbone
Tyler Yin, a rising Junior at Drew High School, was excited to start his internship with Jawbone for the learning experience; he was eager to met people who actually do work in tech hardware. Now he helps with inventory and Quality Control testing side-by-side with Jawbone engineers for the company’s popular fitness tracker UP3 bands. He is aiding their onsite medical expert in researching articles pertaining to blood pressure and heart rates. Tyler hopes to continue to grow his network and expand his knowledge in behind the scenes work for electronics.
