San Francisco Supervisor Eric Mar has introduced a “tech tax” bill that could lead to a new ballot measure in November. The bill, which failed to garner enough support to be placed on the ballot directly last week, would impose a 1.5% surtax on tech companies’ payroll within San Francisco, in addition to the gross receipts-based tax that is already paid by tech companies. This bill seeks to target and vilify tech companies, creating an unfair double-tax on the industry in San Francisco.
sf.citi is fighting hard to defeat this tax, rallying together support from the tech and startup community. If you want to learn how you can get involved, contact us at info@sfciti.org.
