What major steps would you take or support to address the digital divide in San Francisco?

Immediately, we need to make sure the digital divide doesn't follow students to remote learning environments. I'd fight for funding for laptops and home wi-fi hotspots for most vulnerable students. Longterm, city-wide fiber must be pursued so that every resident has access to the promise of the digital economy.

Do you support the reallocation of SFPD funds? If so, what city programs/departments would you like to see the funds reallocated to?

Yes. We must deliver budget justice. Our city is crying out for change and investment in our marginalized and oppressed communities. We must also look closely at our police response and act swiftly to shift calls for non-violent incidents to other departments and more appropriately trained staff such as mental health professionals.

To address the City’s budget deficit, what is more important: generating more revenue or cutting costs? Why?

Investment. This means investing in community infrastructure like affordable housing and transit like extending the Central Subway. And, investing in our people and workforce -- our city has more than 100,000 folks out of work, and some in roles that may not come back. We need rapid reform and expansion of our workforce programs.

What major steps would you take or support to address the digital divide in San Francisco?

Expand fiber optic internet in SF. With distance learning, we need a 100% guarantee that all students have access to high speed internet. Additionally, SF needs to have service providers beyond the big 2 or 3 major ISPs. We have great local providers that haven't had the opportunity to expand and compete effectively.

Do you support the reallocation of SFPD funds? If so, what city programs/departments would you like to see the funds reallocated to?

Yes, I support the smart reallocation of SFPD funds. Funds should be moved to social services (homeless outreach, mental health crisis counselors, legal aid, etc.) that will help both more effectively address non-violent, non-criminal issues as well as reduce the workload on SFPD for issues that are not within their realm of expertise.

To address the City’s budget deficit, what is more important: generating more revenue or cutting costs? Why?

Both should be taken into account. We already are seeing the impacts of reduce tax basis and we will continue to see a loss in tax revenue in the years to come. The city must do more with less. To accomplish this, we must optimize how we use our current resources as we will likely not have a growing tax basis in the years to come.
